Your True Worth

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:32

2 Samuel 9:1-13

"Shuffling and stammering, not looking him in the eye, Mephibosheth said, ‘Who am I that you pay attention to a stray dog like me?'" That's how The Message pictures a young, crippled outcast who finds himself being blessed instead of executed by a king (2 Samuel 9:8). Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan, David's covenant friend, and was the sole surviving member of Saul's household. By rights, the new king, David, could have executed the former king's family to ensure there would be no uprising. Instead, because of a promise to Jonathan, David finds great worth in Mephibosheth and blesses him.

Yes, genetically he was David's enemy. Yes, he was crippled (2 Samuel 4:4). Yes, he lived in a tiny desert outpost called Lo Debar (Hebrew, "no thing"). And yes, in the eyes of the world he seemed to have little value. Yet David restored to him the properties of his grandfather, Saul, and gave him a permanent place at the king's table.

God the Father and God the Son covenanted together to bless you regardless of your worth in the eyes of the world. In God's eyes, the life of His Son is the measure of your true worth.

Man's dignity rests in God who assigns an inestimable worth to each and every person.
